David Bouchard

His birthday is on sept. 13th. My favourite part of his presentation was the flute with two holes. I especially liked the part where he played the two holes together. When he asked the question "What makes you a reader?' it made me think and reflect. What was your favourite part of his presentation? What made you a reader?

Endangered Animals

What are endangered animals? They are animals that are rare and whose population are small. Most endangered animals are in danger because of their fur, fangs, horns or teeth. People wanted to have things that look nice and give them so they began to hunt the animals that had such as a means to get a lot of money . As a result the animals were hunted to such an extent it's population deteriorated. People like the idea of Tiger rugs in their house, ivory and rhino horns for ornaments. While there are some laws banning hunting of such animals - there are still the major problems associated with poachers (people who hunt illegally) who still hunt endangered animals.

NHL Lockout

I'm going to talk about the NHL lockout.
Does anyone think that the NHL should not have a lockout? With the lockout there’s no watching the Oilers and the Penguins(or any other teams)play hockey so there's no Friday night hockey.Personally I think the lockout is a bummer. It's really the only time me and my brother don’t fight because we're too busy watching hockey. So what I’m asking is if anyone wants or doesn't  want the NHL lockout? -jdog102

Christmas

Christmas is awesome! In my opinion Christmas is the best holiday ever, (except for  halloween maybe) what do you think? I think that kids should only get some things that are on their wish list (if they have one) and some pyjamas or clothing, how about you? Is hanukkah better? Would you wipe out the holiday altogether if you could? Do you have a favorite Christmas moment, if so write about it.
Happy Holidays!

Are video games a tool we can use in education or is it a distraction when used in schools?

There is research available in several scholarly articles about the potential use of video games like minecraft, Littlebigplanet etc. in education, but there is also research that shows negative effects of too much video games.  What do you think? Reflect, research and respond to your thoughts.

I heard that some people go trick or treating in the mall. Where is your favorite place to go trick or treating? What's your favorite thing about trick or treating (the  trick, the candy, the dressing up etc.)? -flipster

Hockey equipment

I'm going to talk about hockey equipment and how expensive it can get. An entire set can be over $400 and that's only used. A new set is over $600. This is why I think that the Hockey Helpers Foundation is a great foundation for people who don't have enough money to buy hockey equipment. Also, sometimes used hockey equipment can cause more damage; for example a helmet can have a crack under the packing. That's why I think the Hockey Helpers foundation is a great foundation.

Space Jump

On October 14, 2012, Felix Baumgartner jumped out of a capsule at an altitude of 39km breaking the sound barrier during his free fall at a speed of Mach 1.24. It cost 42 Million Dollars to build the capsule and his space suit and many people think this was a historic jump. Others think the money should have been used to help poor countries. Do you think this jump was worth all this money or just a waste of money?

Marty Chan's visit

This week was amazing! The author Marty Chan came to help us improve our writing skills. Everyone knows that if you are in a higher grade you don't get to play as many games. But with Marty Chan we played a few games to get us going in starting our rough draft. Marty told us about the fourth floor of his school being haunted. At one point he said "BOO!" and we all jumped out of our seats. We were so scared we never knew if he was going to say it again. Marty Chan was probably the most fun we have had so far!

Dear readers,

I think we should think about using less electronics.Like turning of the lights after leaving the room,or watching less television and go outside and have fun, because if we use too much energy it is going to get too warm and the icebergs in the north pole are going to melt.Soon the sea level is going to rise and so that means soon there will not be  Hawaii anymore!

Who thinks they spend too much time watching television than stay outside?Tell me what you think about using less electronics and going outside because enjoy the last days of  summer in the winter you can sit inside for as long as you want.

High Level bridge waterfall

Have you seen this? The High Level bridge in Edmonton has a waterfall that is man made and runs occasionally. The continual running of this waterfall is up for debate at city council (a group of decision makers for the city), as there are concerns on its cost as well as environmental impact. The 64-metre waterfall was installed on the High Level bridge in 1980, to celebrate the province’s 75th Anniversary.
A CBC article has the following arguments:

“It’s overused, this idea of things that are iconic. Here we have something that I actually think actually is iconic in the minds of people all over Edmonton,” said Coun. Ben Henderson.

“Environmental standards have changed over the last 30 years, and what was acceptable 20 years ago is not necessarily acceptable today,” said Coun. Tony Caterina.

The city still hasn’t found a new source for the water.
One option is to use chemicals to de-chlorinated the water that was previously used for the waterfall.
Another is to use untreated river water, which would require new pumps and infrastructure, which could cost up to $2 million, according to early estimates.
The work likely wouldn’t be done in time to have the waterfall turned on for the High Level’s anniversary in 2013.
City council still has to make the final determination on the waterfall’s fate.

What do you think of these statements?
