Space Jump

On October 14, 2012, Felix Baumgartner jumped out of a capsule at an altitude of 39km breaking the sound barrier during his free fall at a speed of Mach 1.24. It cost 42 Million Dollars to build the capsule and his space suit and many people think this was a historic jump. Others think the money should have been used to help poor countries. Do you think this jump was worth all this money or just a waste of money?

  1. I think this was a very good topic to talk about. You certainly caught my attention. From my opinion they should have saved the money because the only people that are really impressed are him, family members and the people that helped him build the capsule and suit. They should have just saved the money to put it toward something more useful to the city or province.

  2. I totally agree with the people that think it was totally worth it .It was a historical jump and all the kids in my class watched the video and in the end you could hear everybody yelling"yeah ,whoo he did it ". I can't believe he actually broke the sound barrier .I wonder how fast the camera was going ? I didn't know that it cost 42 million dollars thats alot of money but I totally think it is worth it .

    10. Why?You'll be known for something, and you'll be in the world record book.If that was you,all you'r friends would cheer for you and probably have a party.

  3. I think that is quite amazing!I cant believe he actually broke the sound barrier.42 Million Dollars to build the capsule and his space suit!I wonder how much the suit costed separately? The suit looks worth the money, the suit is probably build by a professional, also including the capsule. My whole class watched the video and we all thought it was amazing.I wonder if he is German?

  4. I think that this jump was and wasn't worth it. Yes I do believe the money could have been used more wisely. But think about it how brave he must be to jump that high. But when someone gets the world record he gets paid I believe. So then he would be able to get most of it back. So basically I'm trying to say is you pay you get paid back. But it took him a week just to find the perfect timing so he could pass the sound barrier that's why I think it's a good idea except sort of bad.

    1. I will look it up, but he was sponsored by Red Bull. Red Bull in turn received advertising for their drink throughout the stunt.

  5. I don't know. I mean it was historical jump but poor countries also needed that money.I think it would be fun to do that jump but a waste of money that was desperately needed. But even if he didn't do the jump somebody eventually would have done it.His speed was insane, Mach 1.24 that's incredible.

  6. I wonder where he got all the money to do this, if it was from the government I don't think they should have sponsored this cause. If random citizens donated I have no problem with that because it is their own money. But the government still shouldn't donate to causes like this because it's the taxpayers money their using. I think the jump should have happened except it would be raising money for different charities. I think that they could have done it a little different but it's also an amazing feat for mankind.

  7. Hey nice blog Mr.green.I think he could of used the money for both the poor countries and the jump. The reason I think he could of used it on poor countries is because they won't have to starve. The reason I think he should of used it on the jump is so he could have a world record.I mean who wouldn't want a world record. He's got guts jumping from that hight. After all,he did it.So,all I have to say is congratulations Felix Baumgartner.Very, very good blog Mr.green, and nice topic.

  8. If it was his money I don't think that it is a big deal. He can do what he wants with his money but if it was the somebody else's money then he shouldn't have done it. It is very cool that he is trying to break to world records in one and that the world records he's trying to break are one not most of us think about.

  9. I think it was a waste of money cause he could have gave it to the poor. I think it was great that he broke the sound barrier, but 42 million dollars. I could take my entire family on a cruise. I wonder if he was scared or nervous. I know I would be. If he broke the sound barrier wouldn't he get a trophy? I would love to do that someday, only if I'm rich.

  10. My opinion is just to say there are other people in other places like Haiti who are still trying to recover from that earth quake, they would've been so happy just to have that. Even other places in the world need that money desperately. It reminds me when my dad went to help an orphanage in Haiti it was wonderful plus he got to know what was happening. So one thing I have to say is be happy with what you have, and enjoy them cause other people don't have A house they don't have a loving family who makes them a warm dinner as soon as they get home from school. Who cares for braking a world record. I say we need to help other places living in poverty.

    1. Thanks for sharing. We do have a lot to be thankful for. I would like to know more about your dad's trip to Haiti, do you think he would like to share a little bit with you?

    2. I was so happy when my dad went. When I saw the two little black dolls in his hockey bag I thought of making a card. And I did, I started to put some stickers in the envelope when my cat came in and sat on my carpet. That is when I started to notice how much we have to be thankful for. When my dad went he ended up helping build a building for the little tots at the orphanage and when he went to see the main orphanage he gave out the dolls and the scooter .He said to me that the kids were never not playing with them that made me laugh with joy. He now has a video of his adventure in Haiti. I am so proud of my dad.

  12. I think that Felix Baumgartner must have been very brave that day. I can not believe that Felix Baumgartner broke the sound barrier and that he landed safely without having to die. I think that the money was totally worth it to build the capsule and his space suit although he needed to pay alot for all that stuff. I like the title. I also like the picture and the details that you included in your paragraph, Mr. Green.

  13. I think it was very exiting.I think that was worth it.Where did he land?Did he break the world record?I think it is worth the money.Mr.green that is a great topic to talk about.I am wondering how fast did he go down?

  14. I know that seeing him touch the ground safely and not hurt was good but for the question was it just a waste of money. I think it was not a waste of money because each minute there is about one million more dollars. So I think it really not a waste of money. I also think that giving that money to pour countries is a better idea because then more people could be happier. I saw a clip of him jumping and the speed he had was very, very fast. Oh, also that was a good topic Mr. Green.
