Should kids spend less time in front of screens?

The average kid sponges in 2.5 hours of music each day, almost five hours of TV and movies, three hours of Internet and video games, and just 38 minutes of old-fashioned reading, according to a new study by the Kaiser Family Foundation (abcnews.go.com).

Frankly you really shouldn't be subjected to television before the age of two. But the prime amount to spend in front of screens is nil that is practically impossible these days (unless you’re in a prison or something) because laptops are required in class in higher grades like grades 12, 11 and 10. I’m in grade 5 and yet we’re using a form of laptop called the Chromebook to do LA, German (I’m in a German bilingual school), Math, etc. Sometimes we even spend a whole computer class playing Little Alchemy and Conveyor (video games).

What I would like to know very much is how much time you spend time in front of screens?
How much time in front of screens do you think would be the best (counting by hours)?

At what age did you start watching screens?

Your vacation!

I enjoy traveling to different places and seeing new things. Where is your favourite vacation spot? Is it  a place you've been before or a place you are dying to go? I enjoyed my cruise to Alaska best and I think others would like it too.I think I liked it so much because I went with all my family and because it was on a huge ship. The next  place I am dying to go is on a  Hawaiian cruise. Tell me about your vacation and how much fun you had.

Super cool Inventions. By...you!

Milk carton that changes color as the milk expires. No more sniffing...

Here is a cool idea...this milk carton changes colour as the milk expires.

Hologram keyboard?

Have you ever had a super cool idea and wished you could share it or make it come true? Usually your idea is hard to create and you end up turning it into another creation  at the back of your mind. I have done this so now I try and write it down then save it. So what encourages you to think up cool ideas and explore the fantasies of your mind?

I hope you will share your ideas and inventions with everyone here!

Martial Artist- Bruce Lee

Have you ever heard of martial arts expert Bruce Lee?  Originally Bruce Lee was actually named Lee Yuen Kam, because his father believed that a phantom samurai in dark black armor would haunt his son until he was dead.  Later on in Hong Kong Bruce Lee had to leave because of a fight over a group of British sailors harassing a young Chinese woman.  His father suggested that he go to the United States as he  actually had been born in San Francisco; but he asked one more thing of him- to become a martial arts expert. He does.Bruce Lee has a story that inspires the whole world.  Even me, I do a martial art called Taekwondo.  I started it last year (2012) and just graduated to a higher stripe.  I enjoy Taekwondo because of all the kicking and discipline. The one question I have is who or what inspires you?

David Bouchard

His birthday is on sept. 13th. My favourite part of his presentation was the flute with two holes. I especially liked the part where he played the two holes together. When he asked the question "What makes you a reader?' it made me think and reflect. What was your favourite part of his presentation? What made you a reader?

Endangered Animals

What are endangered animals? They are animals that are rare and whose population are small. Most endangered animals are in danger because of their fur, fangs, horns or teeth. People wanted to have things that look nice and give them so they began to hunt the animals that had such as a means to get a lot of money . As a result the animals were hunted to such an extent it's population deteriorated. People like the idea of Tiger rugs in their house, ivory and rhino horns for ornaments. While there are some laws banning hunting of such animals - there are still the major problems associated with poachers (people who hunt illegally) who still hunt endangered animals.

NHL Lockout

I'm going to talk about the NHL lockout.
Does anyone think that the NHL should not have a lockout? With the lockout there’s no watching the Oilers and the Penguins(or any other teams)play hockey so there's no Friday night hockey.Personally I think the lockout is a bummer. It's really the only time me and my brother don’t fight because we're too busy watching hockey. So what I’m asking is if anyone wants or doesn't  want the NHL lockout? -jdog102
